Dogs in the City / Dima

When I heard the title of this new primetime show on CBS, I thought it was going to be a situation comedy or comedy/drama.

But I was surprised to see that it's another dog training show following in the footsteps of Cesar Millan and Victoria Stilwell.  The trainer is Justin Silver, "The Dog Guru", who is also a stand-up comic.

I wouldn't say he's a purely positive trainers as he used some hand jabs (gentler than Cesar) and the "ah-ah" sound of Victoria.  And he also looks at the relationship not just between the dog and the human, but also between human to human (ala Brad Pattison).

He used a Martingale collar and called a "correction" a "cue".  I can't imagine anybody calling him mean and cruel, but I wouldn't be surprised to see criticism from the PP crowd.

Anyway, the guy looks good to me.  Another person to learn from.

And I see the video of the show, I Speak Dog, is available online at cbs.com.

Q&A with Justin after the show.  Clearly not PP (it's ok to give a little yank).

The Language of Dogs is his company's website.

[6/24/12] Yep, sure enough.  Justin Silver is lumped in with Cesar and Brad.

[7/19/12] And on a somewhat unrelated note (searching for Dog Whisperer on vimeo) here's a short film called Leader of the Pack unrelated to Brad Pattison's show of the same name.

[12/1/12] “The Leader of the Pack” is an award-winning film by Michael Slowe showing a positive and happy version of the American show “Dog Whisperer”.

The story shows the work of Dima Yeremenko, Russian Dog Trainer’s work with unruly dogs and some of the best behaved pooches tha you have even seen.

[Just judging by this video alone, this guy might be even better than Cesar!]

He has a book called Dima's Dog School
